How to choose a solar installer
- Check the review trail, not just the stars. Read the most recent reviews and watch how the company responds to complaints — after-sales service is where solar goes wrong.
- Insist on a CoC. Every fixed installation legally needs an electrical Certificate of Compliance; grid-tied systems must be SSEG-registered with your municipality or Eskom.
- Get three itemised quotes. Panels, inverter, battery, mounting, wiring and labour should each be line items. Size your system first so you can compare like with like.
- Ask for a workmanship warranty in writing, separate from the product warranties.
- Red flags: large upfront deposits, no physical address, pressure to sign today, and quotes that won't put equipment brands in writing.
